Rhinoplasty Medellin is cosmetic nose surgery whose objective is to improve its shape and configuration. An operated nose must be provided according to the entire face depending on the gender (If it is Male or Female), therefore the result should be as natural as possible. Sometimes rhinoplasty is not only intended to improve the external appearance of the nose, it is also intended to improve functional changes when they occur.

Who is candidate for a rhinoplasty?

Candidates for this surgery are patients who are dissatisfied with the appearance of their nose due to different alterations such as the deviated nasal dorsum, giva in the nasal dorsum, a widened nose, deviation of the nasal septum, nasal obstruction, deviated nasal tip, fallen nasal tip. , large nasal tip, functional alterations of the nose, prominent nasal wings, widened nostrils, saddle deformity. Patients who present functional alterations that are manifested by nasal obstruction of different causes are also candidates, such as deviation of the nasal septum, valve alterations, turbinate hypertrophy, among others.

At what age can a rhinoplasty be performed?
It is important to understand that you must wait for the nose and face to achieve the greatest bone growth before operating it. This is why it is important to operate on patients after the age of 16, however my personal recommendation is to operate on patients when they are 18 years of age or older.

How long is the duration of a rhinoplasty?

In each person it is individual and depending on the needs of the patient it can last more or less time but on average it can last from 3 to 4 hours. This surgery can be performed under local anesthesia or general anesthesia. In my recommendation, I prefer general anesthesia because it allows working in a patient safely and avoiding the discomforts caused by bleeding that activates the reflexes of nausea and vomiting in patients with local anesthesia. I also suggest carrying out the procedure in institutions that are endorsed by the sectional direction of health.

Will my nose be blocked?

Ideally, it's preferred to leave the nose uncovered, but if during the surgery there is a lot of bleeding or it requires a lot of work at the level of the nasal septum, it is preferred to leave the nose covered seeking to control bleeding and scarring of the mucus.

Does a plastic surgeon consider functional nose problems?

Of course, this myth that surgeons only take into account the aesthetics of the nose regardless of the functional part is false. It is important that when the nose surgery is performed, if the patient presents any structural alteration that produces obstruction, it is corrected in the same procedure allowing good ventilation to be achieved, achieving a nose with a good aesthetic and functional result.

A rhinoplasty hurts a lot?

This surgery does not generally hurt much, however what it does produce is a little discomfort when the nose is covered because it forces the patient to breathe through the mouth for a few days. Pain is usually controlled with common pain relievers that Dr Yesid Cárdenas will recommend.

Are rhinoplasty scars visible?

The scars that are performed in a rhinoplasty depend on the technique used. There are two techniques for nose surgery:

Closed Rhinoplasty: In this technique cosmetic surgery of the nose is performed with hidden incisions, located inside the nostrils, in such a way that they are not noticeable.

Open rhinoplasty: In this technique of cosmetic surgery of the nose, an incision is made in the colonel, leaving a small scar that tends to be imperceptible in most cases. This technique is generally used in patients who are taken to surgery a second time.

Can rhinoplasty be combined with other procedures?

If it can be combined with other procedures to improve the profile of the face such as chin surgery (Mentoplasty), Bichectomy or cheek reduction and other procedures as recommended by the plastic surgeon.

How long of disability does a rhinoplasty produce?

The inability of the patient depends on the time it takes for the edema to disappear and the bruises that appear. On average, a patient can return to work activities in 1 to 2 weeks.

What are the recommendations of a rhinoplasty?
